Angels and Demons

To contact us Click HERE
Long article on David Ray Grifter and his overarching conspiracy theory:

What does Griffin perceive as demonic behavior? US refusal to abolish nuclear weapons despite the knowledge that use of them could eliminate the human population, and resistance to transitioning from a carbon-based energy system to a sustainable one — that, to Griffin, is demonic.

Demonic power harnessed by humans, in Griffin’s view, came about through competition between tribes, especially in recent millennia. He writes that “perhaps the first great increase in demonic power” occurred in the Bronze Age 6,000 years ago, spiking “near the outset of the Iron Age 3,000 years ago.” Modern civilization has taken the demonic achievements of the past to almost inconceivable heights, with the emergence of “computerized weapons and the drive for an all-inclusive empire.”

It’s not just the weapons for Griffin, it’s all around us in the United States, appearing to radiate from some all-pervasive demonic spirit, infiltrating every aspect of our lives and penetrating every dimension of our psyches. For Griffin, we’re talking about the “demonic soul of a culture.”

Grifter's vision for the future?

These proposals are mere build-up to Griffin's very ambitious purpose for the Christian church — global democracy. Griffin is quick to try to distinguish his idea from the goal of the neocons, but he also acknowledges that he’s treading on the same ground that his Loose Change collaborator Alex Jones has spent years denouncing on his radio show: “The idea of creating a global government, to be sure, a huge and extremely controversial idea.”

Yes, that part certainly conflicts with Alex Jones. But the earlier part, about demonic power, is perfectly aligned with Jones' wacky beliefs about the New World Order and its plans.

Eleven years after its birth as a strange stepchild of the response to the attacks on 9/11, the 9/11 Truth movement remains firmly confined to the political fringe. But the truthers retain the ability to rile people up, and on Tuesday a half dozen of them took their case to the Lower Manhattan neighborhood in the shadow of the rising Freedom Tower.
There, the truthers absorbed the abuse of passersby. “You want to be on Hitler’s side, go on Hitler’s side!” one man, Ronald Lefranc, yelled at them. “We are not here for you to fuckin’ open your mouth and protest!” shouted a woman who wore red, white and blue and carried an Army camouflage bag.

AIA Disowns Gage and His Gaggle

Although they're happy to take his money, they make it quite clear that they consider him a nutcase:

The AIA itself, however, is firm about its relationship with Gage. “We don’t have any relationship with his organization whatsoever,” Scott Frank, head of media relations for the AIA, told me.

The former employee of the Walnut Creek, Calif.-based architectural firm Akol & Yoshii is a full-time 9/11 conspiracy theorist, but Gage tries to maintain a façade of being a scientist asking scientific questions. He does his best to avoid the murkier political questions of who could have orchestrated a conspiracy theory and cover-up of the size and scope that the 9/11 conspiracy movement alleges, but his technical views are actually quite mainstream within the Truth movement.

Supreme Court hears arguments today on race based preferences in college admissions

To contact us Click HERE
In what will determine the future of race-based college admission policies in the U.S., the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments today in the affirmative-action case Fisher v. University of Texas.  The justices will then decide whether the University of Texas can legally continue its current admissions practice of using racial preferences/profiling without violating the 14th Amendment’s right to “equal protection of the laws.”

To understand why it’s time to end racial preferences in higher education, consider the following hypothetical scenario of race-based grading.

A university professor walks into class at the beginning of the semester. After a review of required texts, assignments and examinations, the professor discusses the grading policy. The professor explains that there is a new university policy that applies a double standard for grading and is an extension of the university’s race-based admissions policies.

The professor explains that a standard grading scale will apply to all white, Asian and Arab students.  African-American and Hispanic students will automatically receive extra points for all assignments and will receive a final letter grade based on a preferential grading scale.

Most people would find this a blatant form of discrimination, and would object for several reasons.

First, the students receiving academic favoritism might justifiably complain that they are being stereotyped as a homogeneous group. It would be offensive to many of those students to assume automatically that they all need preferential academic treatment.

Second, this form of academic profiling creates a disincentive for black and Hispanic students to study as hard as they would otherwise.

Moreover, these students could face a special-preference stigma when they enter the job market or apply to graduate school.  If a student graduates from college with a 3.5 grade point average, a prospective employer or graduate program would justifiably question the academic credentials and potential abilities of those students who received race-based adjustments in all of their undergraduate course work.

Finally, most everyone would object to the fundamental unfairness of giving preferential treatment to certain groups of students. The students who didn’t receive special grading preferences would rightfully feel they were being treated unfairly and being discriminated against. Why should an Asian student with an 85% score in an accounting class get a letter grade of B if a black or Hispanic student with the same percentage gets an A?

These and many other reasons explain why the only acceptable practice in the classroom is the equal treatment of all students as individuals, without regard to race, sex, ethnicity or religion.

And yet the hypothetical classroom-based discrimination is exactly the type of admission-based discrimination that prevails at the University of Texas. And it is the obvious objections to academic favoritism in the classroom that explain why racial favoritism in college admissions is being legally challenged.
Students are treated as individuals without regard to race by university professors once they enter college. Treating all students as individuals when they first apply to college will ultimately move us further along toward the ideal of a colorblind society than maintaining the current admissions practices of double standards, special preferences and racial discrimination.

President John F. Kennedy said: “Simple justice requires that public funds, to which all taxpayers of all races and national origins contribute, not be spent in any fashion which encourages, entrenches, subsidizes or results in racial discrimination.” Hopefully, Kennedy’s vision will prevail now that the Supreme Court has an opportunity to end state-sponsored racial discrimination in college admissions.

Bottom Line: How can it be logically and legally consistent for somebody to support affirmative action when practiced by a staff member in the admissions or financial aid office of a university in one building on a college campus, but object to “affirmative action grading” when practiced by a college professor on that same college campus in another building?   If race-neutral grading is the accepted standard for the treatment of college students IN the classroom, then race-based preferences cannot be justified when selecting students for admission to the university in the first place.

The Irish Flax Grower's List, 1796

In 1796, the Irish Linen Board published a list of nearly 60,000 individuals who received awards for planting between one and five acres of flax. Individuals who planted one acre were awarded four spinning-wheels, and those growing five acres were awarded a loom. The "Flax Grower's List," is an extremely useful genealogical record since virtually no Irish census of the nineteenth century has survived.

With the information listed, you may be able to compensate for the lack of genealogical records available for Ireland at this time. Land records are unique because they allow you to obtain an idea of your family's migration pattern and help you determine local resources to research for more information. If you are one of the nearly 70 million individuals worldwide with Irish heritage, the Flax Grower's List is an important resource.

Spelling VariationTracing your surname and your family lines can be difficult, in part because of the transient nature of surnames in times past. In the nineteenth century and before, there was no such thing as standardized spelling; names were spelled the way they sounded to the person writing them down. This accounts for much of the variation in surnames today. Take a simple surname like McIntyre, for instance, and search for it in surname lists. You'll find variations MacIntyre, McEntyre, and MacEntyre...

Ground Zero Construction

To contact us Click HERE
The financially illiterate Truthers keep on making this bizarre argument that Larry Silverstein was involved in blowing up his own building and made off with a fortune in insurance payments, missing the fact that those insurance payments are compensating him for the fact that he is paying rent on buildings which don't exist anymore.
Unfortunately trying to get the World Trade Center complex rebuilt is continuing to be a nightmare, but that won't stop the idiotic conspiracy theories.

For years, rebuilding of the World Trade Center site was held up by construction delays and fights between government agencies, insurers and a developer.

Now the problem is a lack of tenants. While two office buildings are well underway at Ground Zero, construction of a third tower, 3 World Trade Center, is stalled at eight stories, well shy of the 80 floors planned. The reason: its developer, Silverstein Properties Inc, the company run by Larry Silverstein, hasn't been able to find a tenant, and he can't build any higher without one, based on a two-year-old deal with government agencies.
When Mr. Silverstein started construction in mid-2010 on the building, then-expected to have 2.5 million square feet of space, he had hoped he would be able to find a tenant by now and keep building to the tower's top. But cement stopped pouring at the 8th floor in the past few weeks.
The stunted growth of 3 World Trade Center reflects the stagnation that has taken hold in the nation's largest office market and the struggles Lower Manhattan faces in rebuilding the more than 11 million square feet of space lost in the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Baltimore Passenger and Immigration Lists Volume 2, 1851-1872

To contact us Click HERE

This database details the arrivals of approximately 89,000 individuals who sailed to Baltimore in the nineteenth century. The information was extracted from National Archives Microfilm Series M255, Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at Baltimore, 1820-1891. While the entire microfilm series spans 50 rolls, this Family Archive covers rolls 1 through 8 and includes individuals who arrived between September 2, 1820 and May 28, 1852.

Most Baltimore passenger lists were collected following the 1833 enactment of a Maryland state law that required passenger lists be submitted to the mayor upon a ship's arrival. The information collected on those passenger lists and preserved on this database can help you create a well-rounded picture of your ancestor's arrival in America.

As you know, it is often the little details that help bring your family history to life. Because of this, we included more than just the basic information available about a person on the actual microfilm. For example, you'll often learn the type of ship an individual sailed on. Types of ships include:

Bark: A ship of three to five masts with the after mast fore-and-aft rigged.
Brig: A two-masted square-rigged sailing ship.
Galliot: A small galley propelled by sails and oars.
Ketch: A large fore-and-aft rigged boat with two masts.
Schooner: A fore-and-aft rigged sailing ship.

Tithe Applotment Books of Ireland, 1823-1838

To contact us Click HERE

A unique land survey taken to determine the amount of tax payable to the Church of Ireland by landholders, the Tithe Applotment Books collectively represent a virtual census for pre-Famine Ireland. Because the results of this land survey were originally compiled in nearly 2,000 hand-written volumes, this resource is known to genealogists as the Tithe Applotment Books. This database references the counties that make up present-day Northern Ireland: Counties Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down, Fermanagh, and Tyrone.

In the original enumeration, each landholder was recorded along with details such as townland, size of holding, land quality and types of crops. The amount of tithe payable by each landholder was based on all of these factors and calculated by a formula using the average price of wheat and oats from 1816-23.

Listings Include:
- Name
- County
- Parish
- Townland
- Year of enumeration

Scottish Immigrants to North America, 1600s-1800s

To contact us Click HERE
This database contains immigration records for approximately 70,000 Scottish immigrants to the United States and Canada. Extracted from a great variety of sources both in North America and Scotland, the information collected here would otherwise be difficult to access. Records were compiled from private and public sources including passenger lists, newspapers, church records, land deeds, records of indenture, and oaths of allegiance.

Materials on this database originally spanned sixteen volumes authored by Scottish emigration authority David Dobson and published by the Genealogical Publishing Company. The author of more than twenty books, Mr. Dobson specializes in migration patterns and the historical background of the Scottish people's emigration. Among the sixteen comprehensive volumes you'll find The Original Scots Colonists and a series of supplements to that work. By itself, that work identifies virtually all of the Scottish settlers to America in the 1600s. The other volumes collected here are of equal quality and value.

The Irish Flax Grower's List, 1796

To contact us Click HERE
In 1796, the Irish Linen Board published a list of nearly 60,000 individuals who received awards for planting between one and five acres of flax.

Counties Covered:
Antrim - Galway - Meath - Armagh - Kerry - Monaghan - Carlow - Kildare - Offaly - Cavan - Kilkenny - Roscommon - Clare - Laois - Sligo - Cork - Leitrim - Tipperary - Derry - Limerick - Tyrone - Donegal - Longford - Waterford - Down - Louth - Westmeath - Dublin - Mayo - Wexford - Fermanagh

Ontario and Nova Scotia Settlers, 1790-1860

To contact us Click HERE
Early settlers of Nova Scotia and Ontario included American colonists (particularly Loyalists) as well as English, Scottish, and Irish immigrants. Among the six titles reproduced here, you'll find historical essays on the settlement of Nova Scotia and Ontario, Loyalist lists, population returns, maps, and immigration records. Originally published by the Genealogical Publishing Company, these books reference approximately 131,000 individuals.

The scarcity of surviving civil records from Nova Scotia and Ontario makes those found on this database even more valuable. Among the unusual resources collected here you'll find a comprehensive collection of newspaper columns that focus entirely on New England families of English descent who settled in Nova Scotia around the time of the Revolutionary War.

What you'll find:
- Full name
- Residence
- Names of family members

Some of Jon Gold's Co-Signers

Jon's been flogging his "Statement for 9-11 Justice" petition lately; these folks certainly know how to circulate petitions; submitting them somewhere effective, not so much. Anyway, the signers are pretty much the usual crackpots: Cindy Sheehan, Dahlia Wasfi, Ray McGovern, Daniel Sunjata, etc. But just for fun, I googled some of the names on page 11:

Andrew Coldrick. Andrew has a page on Causes.com of all the causes he's into. Aside from 9-11 Truth, he's opposed to chemtrails, Zionists, RFID chips and aspartame, supports Ron Paul, and believes that cannabis cures cancer. In short, he fits the Truther demo to a T.

James David Childers. Possibly this guy, who certainly has some interests in common with Manny Badillo.

Helen Harris-Scott. Sued Michael Jackson's estate for $50 million.

This isn't the woman's first legal battle with Jackson, either. Nor is it the first one she's likely to lose, or the first she probably concocted after a few too many drinks.

Helen Harris-Scott filed a lawsuit against Michael in 2006, claiming Jackson installed a tracking device in her car, wiretapped her phone and even had "organized criminals watching me inside my house in L.A. and reporting to him."

Despite the claims of 9-11 Truther Victoria N. Alexander.
"9/11: Explosive Evidence - Experts Speak Out" is getting public attention and casting doubt on the scientific validity of the U.S. government's investigation into the WTC tragedy. PBS is the first major network to air the program. Just days away from the 11th anniversary of the World Trade Center tragedy and months away from the U.S. presidential election, a game-changing 9/11 documentary is ranking number three among "most watched" documentaries on PBS and number one among "most shared." Available for free online August 18th - September 4th, the documentary could have a significant effect on public opinion. Both the Republicans and Democrats, as equally staunch defenders of the official story, stand to be affected if the public's suspicion of government corruption grows deeper.
In fact, it was broadcast on just one PBS station, the nutbar Colorado one that has previously aired Loose Change, Press for Troof and other paranoid conspiracy films.

Victoria's a longtime kook, belonging to Scholars for 9-11 Truth, Justice and the America Way, Steven Jones' splinter group.  She describes herself as a philosopher of science.

This story couldn't help but remind me of Monty Python.  If you haven't noticed, it has been pretty dead around here.  Hard to find anything to write about, but the Truthers insist that they are still winning.

The truthers in Zucotti Park, the site of the original Occupy Wall Street encampment, were unfazed. They are as certain as ever that the attacks of September 11 were an inside job, despite a total absence of credible evidence for a massive and complex conspiracy involving hundreds of players in the American government, the private sector, and Al Qaeda alike. They’re also by and large convinced that their movement is growing and strong, despite the fact that it’s become a closed loop of groups and characters who have been going over the same theories, producing similar documentaries, and visiting the same websites for years.

Of course, all he debunks is the theory that is even more retarded than his:

Regarding the possibility that mini-nukes were used in the WTC Towers to bring them down, I wrote a paper in 2006 which was peer-reviewed and then published in January 2007. I sincerely wish more people would read the peer-reviewed papers I and colleagues have published, as a way of sorting out that which is based on hard evidence and that which is not.
Hey, Steve, don't quit your day job!  (Ooops!)

2012: The Year of the Housing Recovery, Update

To contact us Click HERE
DataQuick -- "An estimated 41,280 new and resale houses and condos sold in California last month, making it the strongest August since 2006. Last month's sales total was up 4.5% from 39,507 in July, and up 9.4% from 37,734 sales in August 2011."

"The median price paid for a home in California last month was $281,000, the same as the month before and up 12.9% from $249,000 in August 2011. The July and August median was the highest since September 2008, when it was $283,000. August marked the sixth consecutive month in which the state's median sale price rose year-over-year."

"Of the existing homes sold in August, 20% were properties that had been foreclosed on during the past year. That was down from a revised 21.7% in July and down from 34.3% a year earlier. Last month's figure was the lowest for any month since foreclosure resales made up 18.3% of the resale market in November 2007."

MP: Isn't this exactly what a housing recovery looks like?

California home sales were the highest in six years for the month of August and up almost 10% from a year ago, the median sales price was the highest in almost four years and up almost 13% from last year, median prices have increased year-over-year for the last six months, and the share of foreclosure sales in August was the lowest in almost five years.

If this isn't a real housing recovery in California, how would a real recovery be different?
