Chart of the Day: Federal Drug Prisoners
To contact us Click HERE
The chart above shows the breakdown of the current federal inmate population by type of offense, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. There are currently 93,876 Americans serving time in federal prisons for drug crimes, which is by far the No. 1 offense that results in a federal jail sentence (see chart). Drug offenders make up almost half of our federal inmate population, and that help explains why the U.S. retains the status as the World's No.1 Jailer with a prison population of 730 per 100,000 population, more than even any of the world's most notorious and oppressive regimes like Burma (120 per 100,000 population), Cuba (510 per 100,000 population), and Iran (333 per 100,000).
Besides the fact that federal drug prisoners far outnumber any other category of criminal offenders, there is another important characteristic that distinguishes drug offenses from other federal crimes like arson, extortion, robbery, burglary, homicide, and embezzlement - almost all of those other crimes have identifiable victims who have been clearly victimized, e.g. robbed, assaulted, murdered, etc. In contrast, drug offenders were mostly involved in "crimes" that frequently had no identifiable victim, i.e. crimes without a victim, or "victimless crimes." Hopefully, future generations of more enlightened Americans and political leaders will look back on the War on Drugs as a shameful chapter of U.S. history and a blemish on America's long tradition of individual liberty and limited government.

Several more metro areas are now reporting strong double-digit gains in both June home sales and home prices:
1. "Seattle-area house prices saw a double-digit increase in June — the first time that's happened in nearly five years. The median price of single-family homes sold last month was $380,000, up 10.1 percent from June 2011. It was the third straight month of year-over-year price increases, and by far the largest change. The last time the median rose by more than 10 percent was in July 2007, when it hit an all-time high of $481,000. Sales volumes were strong in June. Buyers closed on 2,117 houses in King County, the listing service said — 3 percent more than in May, which had been the best month since August 2007. When compared with June 2011, house sales were up 12 percent, condo sales up 16 percent." 2. Obama slowly leaving No Child Behind behind
To contact us Click HERE
Governing - Add Washington and Wisconsin to the list of states that have received No Child Left Behind waivers from the Obama administration.
That brings the total number of states receiving waivers to 26 -- more than half. Another 10 states currently have waiver applications pending with the U.S. Department of Education (see map). The Washington and Wisconsin waivers were announced Friday by the department.
To receive a waiver, states must commit to various reforms outlined by the White House, such as setting new student achievement goals and developing plans for intervening at struggling schools. In exchange, they are relieved from some of NCLB's more onerous requirements, particularly that 100 percent of students be proficient in math and reading by 2014.
The waiver program was initiated last fall by the Obama administration, as NCLB reauthorization bills failed to gain traction in Congress. The law has been due for reauthorization since 2007.

As it happens, Morsi's chief rival was also a Truther:
Abdel-Moneim Abolfotoh, formerly a leading figure in the Muslim Brotherhood, led the field of 13 candidates with 32 percent of the vote in a survey released Monday by the Washington-based Brookings Institution.
Mr. Abolfotoh expressed his views on the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in an interview last year with Egypt scholar Eric Trager.
Mr. Trager, now with the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, quoted Mr. Abolfotoh as saying:
“It was too big an operation …. They [the United States] didn’t bring this crime before the U.S. justice system until now. Why? Because it’s part of a conspiracy.”

I sat in front of Olive Garden like Charlie standing in front of the gates of the Wonka factory. Joyous to see my everlasting gumdrop, my palm’s sweated and my stomach tossed around in anticipation. Yet, my passion and love for her flooded all my emotions like Hurricane Katrina. Through all the instant messages, text messages, and late night phone calls, now was my chance to finally see if all my patience was worth the time to start our journey together. Tonight was the night I saw my computer love for the first time.
I met her on Yahoo messengers and the first words she ever wrote to me were A.S.L (age. sex. location). Those three words started a 12-month subscription of Cupid Arrow in my mail everyday. I swear she had a cheat sheet on the back of her hand because we were so in common. Even though my relation with her was based off of a computer, I couldn’t wait till I saw my love. She told me that I would know it was she because the night sky will be hugging her skin throughout the evening.
I waited for a while till I saw my mistress walking towards me like the sidewalk was her catwalk and she was a Victoria Secret model. The first thing we did was holding each other; no greeting was necessary. Upon my chest, melting chocolate flowed from her head. As I stared at her face, two pebbles caught my eye as they shined in the light of inspiration, harmony, and friendship. Her skin glowed an aura of Latin love wrapped in the moon’s ocean with a body that flowed as if was in motion. She kisses me with lips that had a candy paint finish and tasted of vanilla ice cream.
Throughout the dinner I couldn’t believe that such a woman was with me. I had to have won the lotto or kidnap a model because my dream was sitting in front of me, holding my hand. We couldn’t keep our eyes off each other and for a second I forgot were I was. It seems to great until life alarm woke me through the window. It was all a dream and yet it felt so real. I looked at my phone and coincidentally I receive a text, revealing those three words from heart that keeps me going down this crazy road with her; I love you.

Journal Entry - Social Security Death Benefit
To contact us Click HERE
A homemaker that has not achieved a wage should be entitled to a Social Security death benefit; only depending on the type of workload being done in the household being. For instance, a reading from Bonnie Smith-Yackel, My Mother Never Worked, the mother worked a vigorous lifestyle raising up to eight kids, while also tending the care of a farm and also the household for much of her life. Changing her lifestyle from the town to the farm is much change for a person. And for a person to work continuously for 48 years on the farm helping her husband takes a lot. Even though she did not bring in income, a basic day was working tough long hours. “ Every morning and evening she milked cows, fed pigs and calves, cared for chickens, picked eggs, cooked meals, washed dishes, scrubbed floors, and tended and loved her children.”(110 MY MOTHER NEVER WORKED) This was a just one day of work for her and to do this for 365 days a year through different condition like droughts, giving birth, or disease killing livestock then she definitely deserves the benefit no matter what the law says. Reading this passage made it seem that she was much of an influence for her husband success even though she was not paid in the process sacrificing more the care of her family than herself. She even worked on the farm through all her pregnancy for the fact of survival. This mother was living a hard the working life, the lock keeping the whole family together and the fact that she became paralyzed took away her life and she had to find a new way of survival. Now if the homemaker was lazy and did nothing or barely worked at all then the person shouldn’t receive the death benefit. Furthermore, I say that it depends on how much the wife sacrifice or work that shows if the she deserves the Social Security death benefit.
Peer Review

Peer Review is exchanging essays with another student of the class. Through reading the essay I can give helpful feedback to the author on his written work as the reader gives constructive criticism. For the past day, I was a part of this experience being critique and having to critique others. My feelings towards the peer review were mixed; as this was my first peer review I was part of. This is new territory for me when it comes to English. This is the start of a new journey for me.
Being reviewed it was a great way from me too get a different view from the reader as I try to find my voice. For me not being that great when it comes to writing, it was great to receive constructive criticism from Evan. Evan gave good advice towards my paper. He said that my paper is strong when it comes to my detail but it is weak when it comes down to how my paper flows. These are good notes to help my paper become better with working on my organizational skill and on my transitions. Now my paper probably needs much work because writing is not my forte but the more I work on trying to get better the more success I will have.
Now having to give out my comment for the peer review I was hesitant at first. Being I of all people, I don’t think that I am truly certified to tell someone if there paper is worth being change because I am not a strong writer. I tried to give Evan my best opinion of how his paper would be stronger. Just giving little comments of adding to his paper that would give it more depth. Like adding how the game made him feel or did it affect the relationship that he had with his friends or family. Truly this being my first peer review I feel I did it wrong and didn’t give good comments that would truly help his narrative essay.
There is not much really else that I can say about the peer review but that I will do much better the next time since now I see what is to be asked from us. I just hope Ms. Giddens won’t get on me too bad for put my input towards the review so poorly, even thought this is my first time.

Financier in big trouble pulls out of hosting Romney event

Financial Times - Bob Diamond, chief executive of Barclays, has pulled out of hosting a London fundraiser for Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee, as the bank faces growing pressure over its role in the price-fixing of lending rates.
“Mr Diamond decided to step aside as a co-host for the upcoming London reception to focus all his attention on Barclays. We respect his decision,” said Andrea Saul, a spokeswoman for Mr Romney’s campaign.
Mr Diamond had been one of 18 co-hosts for a dinner in London later this month in which guests are being asked to pay between $25,000- $75,000 to raise money for Mr Romney, who will be in town for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Study shows depth of NYPD corruption

NY Times - An anonymous survey of nearly 2,000 retired officers found that the manipulation of crime reports — downgrading crimes to lesser offenses and discouraging victims from filing complaints to make crime statistics look better — has long been part of the culture of the New York Police Department.
The results showed that pressure on officers to artificially reduce crime rates, while simultaneously increasing summonses and the number of people stopped and often frisked on the street, has intensified in the last decade, the two criminologists who conducted the research said in interviews this week.
“I think our survey clearly debunks the Police Department’s rotten-apple theory,” said Eli B. Silverman, one of the criminologists, referring to arguments that very few officers manipulated crime statistics. “This really demonstrates a rotten barrel.”

Biggest bank scandal ever

Motley Fool -British bank Barclays is dead center of a storm involving the manipulation of inter-bank lending rates, particularly Libor (the London Inter Bank Offered Rate).
What is truly breath-taking is the sheer scale of this fraud.
According to one estimate, around $350 trillion of lending and derivatives is priced off Libor. That’s enough to pay for the whole of UK Government spending for around three centuries at current levels. Thus, if misconduct by banks caused Libor to increase by a mere one tenth of one basis point (0.001%), this amounts to $35 billion a year in extra interest – that’s roughly the UK’s annual budget for transport and close to as much as council tax brought in last year.
One official claims that 20 other banks helped to rig interest rates and that Barclays is poised to 'blow the whistle' on wrongdoing at its co-conspirators. It's also likely that criminal charges could be brought against the ringleaders of this worldwide fraud.

Paris transit creates new sort of bus stop
To contact us Click HERE
Tree Hugger - The French capital's main transit agency, RATP, has set up what it's calling the "bus stop of the future" outside the busy Gare de Lyon train station for a five-month trial period, The Atlantic Cities reported earlier this month.
Described as a "place of social innovation" by the trend blog PSFK, the "Station Diderot" transit shelter offers riders a variety of services, from a book lending library and an electric-bike rental station to phone charging outlets, free WiFi, and a snack and coffee kiosk.
Bar-style tables built around existing trees encourage socializing while extensive (and interactive) sources of neighborhood information help idle passengers plan out the rest of their journey.

Stats: living alone

American Interest - More than 50 percent of American adults are single, and 31 million—roughly one out of every seven adults—live alone. This is a significant increase from 1950, when only 22 percent of American adults were single. It corresponds with an increase in the average age of marriage by five years to 28 for men and 26 for women. Put another way, people who live alone make up 28 percent of all U.S. households, which makes them more numerous than any other domestic unit, including the nuclear family.

Miami Herald - An attorney representing a Tampa-area man accused in a murder-for-hire scheme believes the importance of being Ernest trumps his client’s trial needs. A judge — apparently an Ernest Hemingway fan — disagrees.
Frank Louderback represents Jerry Bottorff, accused of murder for hire, conspiracy to commit murder for hire and a weapons offense for his involvement in the 2007 slaying of Thomas Lee Sehorne, 37, in Lithia, Fla.
He’s entered the annual Ernest Hemingway Look-a-Like Contest at Sloppy Joe’s in Key West and doesn’t want to miss it. The winner will be crowned on July 21.
In his motion for trial suspension, Louderback wrote that he would need to drive to Key West when the trial recesses on July 19, and that he blocked out six hotel rooms for family friends and others "and has had to pay non-refundable deposits."
U.S. District Court Judge Steven Merryday countered in his decision on Louderback’s motion: "Between a murder-for-hire trial and an annual look-alike contest, surely Hemingway, a perfervid admirer of grace under pressure, would choose the trial."

Track 1. Turn My Swag On by Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em
“ Hop up out the bed turn my swag on, take a look in the mirror and say what’s up. AAAYYY! I’m getting money...” I relate to this song because when I wake up in the morning I have a feeling of confidence (or swag) that if I work hard I can l soon wake up too dreams of a beautiful family, success of being an architect and being financially stable.
Track 2. Hustlaz Ambition by Young Jeezy
Track 3. Ready For Whatever by T.I
Yet to make my dream to come true, the journey will be hard. There will be challenges that seem impossible to accomplish or people that will try to keep me away from becoming great by closing the door in the face. I have to bed ready for whatever the world throws at me to make me stronger.
Track 4. Say What’s Real by Drake
Track 5. Get Allot by Young Jeezy
This song is a motivational song for me. The purpose of this song is that when a person makes it from nothing to something, there will be somebody to hate on you for what you done in your life. I know that I’m going have someone to hate on me. Plus I see hating.
Track 6. 3 Peat by Lil’ Wayne

The song is about not letting anyone change who I am as a person because I think I’m better than everyone. You are your own person and you live your life your own way. I don’t care what I say because I rather be real than fake.
Track 8. Lost by Gorilla Zoe
At times in my life I feel that I’m lost and don’t know what to do in life. Sometimes things in life can get overwhelming and it can leave you thinking confusion.
Track 9. Blessing by Yung LA
This song is about thanking god for everything he supplier from his family, money, the streets and etc. Just like Yung LA, I thank god for everything has done for me from wake me up in the morning, making thins long in my life, the love of my family and friends, and everything else in my life.
Track 10. Tomorrow – Rocko
This is just a little sample of who I am as a person. My goal is to be more than just a statistic in this world as a black man.

Random Observations Regarding Today's Supreme Court Decision Upholding the Affordable Care Act:
1. Can we all just shut the fuck up for a little while now and actually do the work of getting health care to people? Is that too much to ask? What's that, Speaker of the House John Boehner? Oh, sorry, forgot that your ass is so filled with Koch cock that it's pumping your brain stem. And Eric Cantor? You're just a little, bespectacled bitch boy.
2. The right-wing reaction has run from sad to hysterical. Sad comes from Red State's Erick "Erick" Erickson, who was strangely muted, saying, "It’s a big win for the President and a bad day for freedom. But we can deal with it. It is not the end of the world, the republic, or freedom." Hysterical? Where do you wanna go? Tucker Carlson's Internet Timewaster, which declared, "Congratulations, Americans: The government owns your bodies." Or that weather vane of batshittery, Sarah Palin, who tweeted, really, "Obama lied to the American people. Again. He said it wasn't a tax. Obama lies; freedom dies" (surely, someone else punctuated that for her).
3. The easiest "Shut-the-fuck-up" you can say is, yes, of course, John Roberts, it was always a tax. But right-wing nutbags have made it so that you can't even utter the word "tax" without Fox "news" going on the war path and Grover Norquist threatening to find some obeisant twat to primary you. So, fuck, sure, call it a "penalty" or a "fee" or whatever. The majority on the court merely said, simply, if it's money the government is charging you to pay for programs, it's a fucking tax. And, yes, it's the most rational basis for the decision. Essentially, the majority told supporters of the ACA to stop acting like scared children. Nut up and call a duck a "duck."
4. Hey, Anthony Kennedy, hope you have nightmares where you're sodomized by the barbed dick of a demon William Rehnquist in hell.
5. Gotta say: It's a little disappointing that Antonin Scalia didn't write a spittle-flecked dissent.
6. And while this doesn't get Roberts off the hook for a lot of vile shit, it does look as if the young Chief Justice decided that he wasn't going all in with deranged Scalia (and his vestigial tail, Thomas). By creating a way that the law could stand, one might hope that Roberts simply tilted towards progress, finally, at last. You can bet that some Republican will be calling for his impeachment soon.
7. Mostly, though, a big "suck it" to everyone who thought that our Constitution was such a narrowly-devised document that the federal government couldn't at least attempt to do big things anymore. No, the ACA ain't perfect by any stretch. It's still a giant giveaway to a disgusting industry, but, if nothing else, it makes things just a little more humane. It's a start. And while the GOP thinks this is the beginning of a battle to repeal it, they're wrong. It's the start of a battle to make it better.

Rep. Joe Walsh Is a Total Cockhead:
In attacking his Democratic opponent - Tammy Duckworth, a double-amputee, multi-decorated war veteran - Republican Representative Joe "Deadbeat Dad" Walsh really did say, "Understand something about John McCain. His political advisers, day after day, had to take him and almost throw him against a wall and hit him against the head and say, 'Senator, you have to let people know you served! You have to talk about what you did!' He didn’t want to do it, wouldn’t do it. Day after day they had to convince him. Finally, he talked a little bit about it, but it was very uncomfortable for him. That’s what’s so noble about our heroes. Now I’m running against a woman who, my God, that’s all she talks about. Our true heroes, it’s the last thing in the world they talk about." Good job, there, Illinois 8th. Walsh is one of the most worthless pieces of GOP shit in a turd pile that goes up to the sky.
Sure, Walsh, who never served in the military (and was, in fact, a community organizer early in his career) is being justifiably excoriated for being a total cockhead. But what fucking John McCain is Walsh talking about? Because, whatever myth Walsh has been fed, the John McCain who ran for president in 2008 mentioned his military service every chance he got. In fact, you pretty much couldn't get him to shut up about it:
"When I left the Navy and entered public life, I enlisted as a foot soldier in the political revolution [Reagan] began." - Victory speech after Florida primary, January 29, 2008.
"I was still a naval officer then." - Speech to CPAC, February 7, 2008.
"In Vietnam, where I formed the closest friendships of my life, some of those friends never came home to the country they loved so well." - Speech to the Council on Foreign Relations, March 26, 2008 (that line would show up again and again).
"No one hates war more than the veteran who feels most plainly the loss of a veteran." - Interview with Katie Couric, July 22, 2008.
"On an October morning, in the Gulf of Tonkin, I prepared for my 23rd mission over North Vietnam."- John McCain's acceptance speech for the Republican nomination, September 4, 2008.
"I'm an old Navy pilot, and I know when a crisis calls for all hands on deck." - Speech to the Clinton Global Initiative, September 25, 2008.
"A war that I was in, where we had an Army, that it wasn't through any fault of their own, but they were defeated. And I know how hard it is for that -- for an Army and a military to recover from that." - First presidential debate, September 26, 2008.
"I have acted responsibly throughout my military career." - Second presidential debate, October 7, 2008.
"I've been fighting for this country since I was 17 years-old and I have the scars to prove it." - Stump speech, October 21, 2008.
You know what a real hero doesn't do? Attack the honorable service of a veteran. But, then again, that's just the kind of skeevy shit you expect when a Republican goes up against a man or woman who can kick their asses, with or without legs.
